Ubun2 is the coming together of musicians that have always had the music bug in them but have been too busy with work, family and the sansaar.
Finally, the eureka moment arrived in 2015 and these 4 passionate musicians came together to re ignite their dormant music forces and voila... we have Ubun2 the band.
For us the journey has just begun......
Ubun2 actually written as Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning ‘humanity to others’. It also means ‘I am what I am because of who we all are
A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.
Our band embodies this spirit and it is the essence of who we are.
Meet Ubun2’s Narayan Subramaniam - he is our crooner, lead singer, composer and in a lot of ways the task master.
A passionate musician who is always singing, humming or thinking music, Narayan has been fortunate to being exposed to music at a very young age as his mother is a good Carnatic music singer. As time has moved on, his love for music has deepened and it is literally a part of his DNA now. Although he has been exposed to a lot of different music genres, he has been particularly fond of film songs sung by his favourite singers namely Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey and Mohammed Rafi.
Having won several prizes for singing in his School & college days, Narayan has strengthened his vocal skills by learning Hindustani classical music for 8 years from various gurus & exponents of the genre.
His professional commitments, over the years have somewhat hampered his foray into professional singing but it’s impossible to keep your core passion and your inner calling down for long. So here he is along with three extremely passionate musicians in the band UBun2 as the lead singer & composer, hoping to realize his long cherished dream of being immersed in music forever. Read more
Meet Ubun2’s Thomas Mathai aka Moncy who lives, eats and breathes the guitar. He plays the rhythm, sings and also chips in with a lot of hard hitting lead patterns. Extremely particular about each and every note, pattern, sound, his attention to details is exemplary and sometimes drives up all the band members on the wall, literally. Albeit - this particular quality defines and creates the sound of our band in more ways than one.
Moncy has been very passionate about music since his childhood and started learning the earned guitar and singing through his Choir Master “Uncle Baldwin” at the age of 12.
He, along with his musician pals, had formed the youth Church Choir and was very active in playing / singing church / gospel hymns until most of his friends got settled across the globe.
He also loves to experiment on guitar and Keyboard genre elements like rock / funk / Psychedelic music. He is best known as the former guitarist of the rock band Mid Life Crisis [MLC], from 2005 until 2009. Played covers like RHCP, KOL, Pink Floyd, Green Day, Uriah Heep, Bon Jovi et el. And his major rock/ alternative music influences include Metalica / GnR / Nirvana followed by David Gilmour / RHCP / Coldplay.
His 1st Guitar was presented to him by his late younger brother John Mathai aka Johncy on 1990 was a Red Colour Gibson which is now painted all in white. Read more
This is Suhas Kataria aka Stix – our drummer, percussionist and lyricist (a member of the prestigious SWA - Screen Writers' Association). Suhas has been in love with all things music throughout his life and started learning the Tabla as his first step towards music. A self-confessed amateur Suhas loves playing percussions like Djembe, Tabla, Dholak and loves kicking the western drums the most. He is still learning with each passing moment and he hopes to “arrive” one fine day.
His craze for reading – books, anecdotes, advertising, one- liners (including the ones written on the back of trucks or rickshaws which he eagerly pursues if not read completely even in peak traffic), proverbs, short stories has resulted in him being good at writing songs, copies and lots of crazy stuff. He loves writing – period.
Suhas is also a hardcore & passionate entrepreneur having founded his own real estate venture and a digital marketing company. His business keeps him on his toes and his life is currently about balancing business, family and music. Strangely he is enjoying and relishing this challenge.
Having spent his growing years listening to Michael Jackson, George Michael, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Megadeth, RHCP on one side and to Indian classical music, ghazals, bhajans - artists like Jagjit Singh, Ghulam Ali, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Subha Mudgal and the likes on the other, his taste for music is universal in the real sense.
Mr. Suresh Bhadricha is Suhas’s drum guru and the little that he knows about western drums is all owing to his master. Suhas plays dholak and Tabla at various social gatherings, bhajans and has also performed as a freelancer at many places. He currently owns a Traps drum kit along with a host of other percussion instruments.
It has been a hectic journey in terms of a businessman for him to really practice the way he would like to but with the Ubun2 bunch coming into his life it seems that his musical journey is beating loudly and is on a roll for sure (pun intended).Read more

Besides being an entrepreneur managing his family business, its music that keeps Sidd blissfully busy.
His sharp ear for music, it’s detailing & dynamics helps him strum the rhythm guitar joyfully and also helps him croon rock numbers, soothing ballads – both in Hindi & English beautifully.

His personal musical journey started from his college days and he credits Alok Saxena (a pilot by profession and a guitarist by passion) for investing time & teaching him to play the guitar.
His first guitar was a Hobner & now it’s the Fender T-Bucket that he uses for his current performances. He is a former MLC band member where he was the lead vocalist & rhythm guitarist.
